Cooking Tips

How to Cook Skirlie

Ingredients:

  • Pre-made skirlie
  • A little butter or oil (optional, for extra flavour)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste, if needed)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the Pan:
    • Place a frying pan on a low heat. If you like, you can add a small amount of butter or oil to the pan to prevent sticking and add extra flavour.
  2. Reheat the Skirlie:
    • Add the pre-made skirlie to the pan and gently raise the temperature to medium heat as the fat melts. Break it up slightly with a spoon or spatula if it’s clumped together.
    • Stir occasionally and heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until it’s warmed through and slightly crisped, depending on your preference.
  3. Season (Optional):
    • Taste the skirlie and add a little more salt or pepper if needed. You can also sprinkle in fresh herbs like parsley for extra freshness, though it’s optional.
  4. Serve:
    • Once it’s heated through, remove the skirlie from the pan and serve as a side dish with roasted meats, stews, or poultry.

Alternative Methods:

  • Microwave: Place the pre-made skirlie in a microwave-safe dish, cover with a lid or a microwave-safe cover, and heat on medium for about 2-3 minutes, stirring halfway through. Make sure it’s hot all the way through.
  • Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), place the skirlie in an oven-safe dish, cover with foil, and bake for about 10-15 minutes or until heated through.
